An Evening in Hill City

Nothing is as quaint as the Alpine Inn; a historic hotel that now serves mainly as a very popular restaurant in the heart of downtown Hill City.

There are many quaint, idyllic parts of Hill City. The town is nestled in between scenic hills and you can stroll the main street with the historic sound of the 1880 train in the distance.

Nothing is quite as quaint however as the Alpine Inn; a historic hotel that now serves mainly as a very popular restaurant in the heart of the downtown area. The Alpine Inn is famous for many things, from it’s historic building that is themed to the late 1800’s to it’s delicious German style food. If you stop by for lunch there is a large menu of traditional German meals like Weinershnitzel and Sauerkraut. They also have a variety of salads, sandwiches as well.

Most worth your while, in this writer’s opinion, is the evening meal. In the evening, the lights are lowered and you will feel like you are in 1886.. The waitress will come to your table and ask if you’ve been before because there is a certain way the evening meal works. The kitchen offers 2 options. A filet mignon dinner or the Kaes Spaetzle Primavera, which are German dumplings served in a Swiss cheese sauce. The meal comes with a wedge salad smothered in a buttermilk ranch, toast, and a baked potato. The filet, wrapped in bacon, is one of the most tender steaks you will find in the Black Hills area. But don’t fill up on just that. The restaurant offers three pages (yes, THREE) of desserts. From their caramel apple strudel to their Chocolate Tower, I have yet to not be able to order and devour a dessert.
