What is there to do in the winter in the Black Hills?
Get outside, of course! There are unlimited opportunities to explore the Black Hills in the winter and the best part is that there are FAR less people out and about!
Any and every hiking trail (and every square foot of backcountry) is available to the adventurous snowshoer. For the more casual hiker, the Mickelson Trail, Silver City Trail and Iron Creek Trail (CSP or N. Hills) are great options!
From fat biking to snowboarding, ice climbing and XC skiing, adventure abounds in the Black Hills in the winter. If you love to fat bike, check out the 28 Below Fat Bike Race.
The Forest Service offers free snowshoe rentals or you can pick a pair up at SCHEELS in Rapid City for a small daily rate.
