#72 Big Hill Trails

Bike, hike, snowshoe, XC ski… you can do it all at the Big Hill Trails! With a broad variety of trails, numerous ways to connect them, and a scenic Spearfish Canyon overlook, Big Hill has something for everyone!

The Big Hill Trailhead is located just 8 miles south of Spearfish on Tipton Rd. and is home to the Northern Hills CASA “Super 6” Bike Race and various winter events. This trail system consists of 5 loop-style trails (A, B, C, and D) and 1 spur trail of varying distances and difficulties.

The spur trail (D1) is a MUST-SEE that ends at a scenic overlook of Spearfish Canyon.

During the winter season, these trails are groomed for cross country skiing by the Black Hills Nordic Ski Club. Snowshoeing is also allowed on ungroomed trails.

Fun Fact: The iconic Dakota Five-0 Mountain Bike Race also passes by this trailhead.
